The longstanding feud between high-profile celebrity Tory Lanez, known for his Chixtape remixes, and Grammy award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion has culminated in a breakthrough legal development: Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for shooting Stallion. This sentencing was confirmed by Reuters, capping off a high-profile conflict that escalated in 2020 with an argument surrounding their respective musical careers.
Judge David Herriford handed down the sentence to Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson after a trial filled with delays. Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. It is clear that the legal repercussions of this conflict will serve to remind Lanez, and others, that disputes are better resolved peacefully rather than through violence.
Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion’s career continues to grow, encompassing even a cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suprisingly making it increasingly difficult for Lanez to keep pace. Generating the Chixtape 6 while behind bars seems a tall order for Lanez, given these circumstances.
However, it is important to acknowledge the gravity of the issue at hand, as domestic abuse is not a matter to be taken lightly. Megan opted to submit a written court statement rather than personally attending Lanez’s sentencing, in which she stated: “He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media.” It is with hope that Megan can finally find peace following this sentencing.
