Ten future law school students have elected to defer the commencement of their J.D. path to initially engage in a year of public service work at one of the Am Law 50 law firms, Weil, Gotshal & Manges. This is part of the Weil Legal Innovators Program (WLI), a public service initiative which is currently in its fourth year of operation.
The chosen students for this year’s cohort have opted to delay their first year of study at one of the WLI partner law schools in order to complete one year of public service at a non-profit organization partnered with the WLI, as reported in the firm’s announcement.
“We’re proud to offer them an opportunity to help address some of the most pressing social and legal challenges in our communities today,” says Barry Wolf, the executive partner at Weil and chair of the firm’s management committee. Allowing for prospective law students to get deep, hands-on experience tackling real-world issues could have a transformative effect on their future legal careers.
