Legal Tech Expert Steve Errick Joins AAA as Senior VP Focusing on AI and Tech in Dispute Resolution

Legal tech and publishing veteran Steve Errick, previously the chief operating officer at Fastcase and head of the Legal Research Information Division at LexisNexis, has recently taken up a new role with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) as senior vice president and chief development officer.

In his new role, Errick will guide various strategic initiatives, develop new services and products, and lead the AAA’s marketing efforts. His work will particularly focus on projects that explore the impact of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence on alternative dispute resolution, including alliances, joint ventures, and strategic, mission-driven acquisitions.

The appointment of Errick is a significant move for AAA, following the appointment of Bridget M. McCormack, former chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, who assumed the role of AAA’s president and CEO in February. McCormack, in her previous role, was a strong proponent of modernizing the court and justice systems to improve access to justice.

“Steve’s leadership, relationships, and expertise in the legal and legal tech markets will hasten our strategy implementation,” McCormack stated. “Steve has a proven track record of converting innovative ideas into viable services and achieving growth.”

Errick has a solid history in the legal tech domain. Following the merger of Fastcase and vLex in April, Errick served as chief global content officer at vLex. During his tenure, he led global content teams, managed service partners, and spearheaded the Fastcase and vLex content integration efforts.

Prior to that, Errick held the role of COO at Fastcase from 2017 where he launched several publications and product lines that notably boosted the company’s revenue. He managed the Legal Research Information Division as vice president and managing director at LexisNexis from 2010 to 2016. Here, he was responsible for the development of a wide-ranging portfolio of legal research tools. He has also held executive positions at Wolters Kluwer and Thomson Reuters.

After serving AAA as a board member, Errick stated that he was honored to take on the new role and observe McCormack fostering innovation and growth within AAA’s mission. Errick noted he sees a similarity between McCormack’s vision and the innovative ethos in other organizations he has been a part of like Fastcase, The Florida Bar, and the American Immigration Law Association.

“The AAA team is set to transform arbitration and mediation by aligning with and acquiring services, constructing AI-supported workflow tools and technologies to best aid arbitrators, businesses, and the courts,” Errick commented. Revealing the AAA’s innovative approach, he added, “I am eager to be a part of this transformation and program, as the AAA continues its mission to provide education, technological solution, and efficient service solutions.”
