In a shift indicating the changing dynamics of the market, intra-Asia transactions are now leading the Asia Pacific mergers and acquisitions (M&A) sector, as reported by Refinitiv in their most recent global M&A review.
According to the review, of the top 13 largest transactions in Asia Pacific during the first half of 2023, eight were intra-Asia deals. Furthermore, the majority of key deal participants were based in Greater China, underscoring the shifting focus within the region’s transactional market.
However, the $282 billion value of announced deals in Asia during this period represents a significant 40% drop compared to the same period last year.
