UK Legal Titans Slaughter and May, Linklaters Slump in M&A Rankings Amid Dismal Market

United Kingdom’s legal giants Slaughter and May along with Linklaters have witnessed a significant drop down in their UK legal adviser M&A rankings during the first half of the year, amidst a rocky transactional market.

Linklaters, which had placed first in the year 2022, fell to the seventh position; they reported completion of 22 deals for a combined value of $7.3 billion according to Refinitiv’s latest rankings for H1 2023. Slaughter and May, an incumbent second in 2022, also fell victim to the sluggish deal market and dropped from 5th to 16th place, having completed 11 announced UK deals during this period.

The grim figures are reflected in the broader scope too, with Refinitiv’s data showing a sharp 49% decrease in the value of European M&A, marking a decade’s low.
