Following significant investigation, VNS Health has clarified the circumstances surrounding a recent data breach at third-party vendor, TMG Health. The breach, which occurred on August 14, 2023, resulted in the exposure of sensitive information pertaining to 103,775 consumers. VNS Health has already filed notice of this breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights.
The unauthorized access appears to have allowed the viewing of several pieces of confidential information, which includes consumers’ names, Social Security numbers among other relevant data. This incident comes as the latest in the series of a distressing trend towards data breaches involving large volumes of personal information, which consequently puts hundreds of thousands of individuals at the mercy of potential identity theft and fraud.
The direct and indirect ramifications of such data intrusions are yet to be comprehensively understood, but present a substantial threat to personal security and financial stability of affected consumers. Companies and other entities who maintain control of extensive personal data sets are urged to reinforce their security measures to prevent such breaches in the future.
