FTX Co-Founder’s Fraud Trial: Enlisting Expert Witnesses at $1,200 per Hour

FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who faces a fraud trial in October, is potentially enlisting seven expert witnesses for up to $1,200 an hour, according to bloomberglaw.com. The content of their testimony is foreseen to include Bloomberg’s perspective on campaign finance laws, valuations of cryptocurrency exchange platform FTX and its hedge fund offshoot, Alameda Research, and also the exchange’s software structure and terms of service.

The startling revelation came to light in a letter submitted in a Manhattan federal court earlier this week. Prosecutors, however, express skepticism about the adequacy of the defense eyewitnesses’ knowledge of the events under scrutiny, suggesting that their tangible connection with, and real-life experiences of the alleged fraudulent events could potentially be thin.

While the principle ‘money can’t buy everything’ is often extolled, it appears that when involved in intricate and potentially high-stakes litigation, substantial intervening financial resources may materially affect the spectrum of legal defense options available.

Stay tuned for further developments on this intriguing case as we inch closer to the anticipated trial in October.
