In the ongoing drama that is the criminal case against former U.S. President Donald Trump, yesterday saw a flurry of orders appearing on the docket. It seems pertinent at this point to clarify that the focus here is on the D.C. criminal case revolving around conspiracy and obstruction allegations, not related cases in New York, Georgia or Florida.
Among the events of the day, Judge Tanya Chutkan dismissed several applications from third parties seeking to file in connection to the case. One such dismissed motion came from “Former Judges and Senior Legal Officials” intended to back the government. The judge also rejected several attempts by individuals who hoped to support Trump, including one somewhat extraordinary bid from “Victor Shorkin,” a central figure in Ukrainian conspiracy theories involving Hunter Biden.Moton
Judge Chutkan’s court, it seems, is not a place for venting perspectives. A series of order denials were documented by legal reporter Zoe Tillman inher tweet on the day.
Among the noteworthy denials by Judge Chutkan was a request from the ‘Galaxy Bar Association’, a relatively unknown collection of attorneys from the Milky Way. They evidently had some thoughts they wanted to share in defense of Trump. Fascinatingly, this group is distinct and separate from theIntergalactic Bar Association, an existing group focused on Space Law.
However, the exact viewpoint these cosmic lawyers hoped to present in Trump’s defense will remain a mystery. Judge Chutkan’s courtroom is proving to be a space where not all voices are guaranteed a chance to be heard.
