Kirkland & Ellis Litigator Joins Phillips Lytle’s Expansion into Midwest Legal Market

In a continuing trend of talent migration from Big Law to midsize firms, Jaran Moten, a litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis, has joined the ranks of the 152-strong attorney team at Phillips Lytle. The Buffalo, New York-based firm continues its expansion in the Midwest with the growth of its Chicago office.

Moten has a decade’s worth of experience at Kirkland, having climbed the ranks from associate to partner. His move to Phillips Lytle comes roughly a year after the firm established its presence in the Windy City. This initiative was spearheaded by John R. Worth, another Kirkland & Ellis alumnus, marking the start of the firm’s goal to build out its reach into major legal markets.

Former Kirkland partner and now Phillips Lytle member, Moten shares his perspective on the evolving dynamics of client commitment and engagement. He believes that clients are more frequently employing multiple firms for different matters, suggesting that this trend may offer firms of Phillips Lytle’s size an advantage. It appears the capacity to accommodate this trend will only strengthen the competitive edge of firms like Phillips Lytle.
