Legal professionals worldwide may find interest in a recent case where global law giant, Dechert, is facing potential sanctions and civil contempt motions. The firm stands accused of failing to comply with discovery deadlines in a lawsuit connected to aviation entrepreneur Farhad Azima.
Azima has alleged that he was the target of a hack-and-smear campaign involving Dechert and has requested the firm to be sanctioned due to their non-compliance. According to court documents submitted this week by Farhad Azima’s legal representation, despite a court order requiring Dechert to submit to depositions by August 24 and produce documents by August 8, the firm has not abided.
This accusation came in response to a motion for clarification filed by Dechert on the final day designated for document production, as can be seen in court records.
Additionally, the plaintiff’s lawyers stated in a court filing, “For approximately seven months before the court’s July 25 order, neither the defendants nor Dechert produced a single relevant, custodial document. Following the court’s order, their stonewalling has continued.”
This case serves as a notable reminder of the importance of compliance in discovery phases and the potential legal consequences faced when such obligations are not met.
