Burning Man Festival Sparks Heated Exchange Between Neal Katyal and Jeffrey Clark on Twitter

Hogan Lovells partner Neal Katyal’s experience at the Burning Man festival, once the subject of light-hearted coverage, has taken an unexpected twist. Jeffrey Clark, a former Department of Justice employee who gained notoriety for his efforts to prolong Donald Trump’s tenure following the 2020 election, used Katyal’s attendance at Burning Man to make a cutting remark on social media.

Clark, who also obtained a somewhat dubious reputation after having his name slapped on a Georgia indictment for election fraud, reacted disparagingly to tweets about the festival. Remarks that seemed shaded with religious connotations were aimed at Katyal who, in response, took Clark to task on his understanding of religious tolerance in America.

The commentary did not end there, however, as prominent figures and lawyers on Twitter joined the fray, making their own jabs at Clark’s expense. A tweet from sports reporter Mike Lupica was among the mix, signalling that Clark’s reputation reaches beyond the bounds of legal circles.

Does this social media fiasco amount to a significant threat for Clark amidst his existing legal issues? The verdict is still out. Nevertheless, it’s safe to say this incident did not win him any popularity points. More details are available via Above the Law.
