FCC Sets October 2 Deadline for Radio and TV Stations to File Equal Employment Opportunity Reports

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced a suite of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) deadlines that radio and television station employment units (SEUs) need to prepare for by October 2, 2023. The directive issued affects SEUs located in Florida, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Iowa, Missouri, Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Oregon, American Samoa, and Washington with five or more full-time employees.

These companies are required to compile an annual EEO Public File Report (PFR), according to the announcement from Wiley Rein LLP. From October 2, these reports need to be posted on the website belonging to each station in the SEUs and need to be uploaded to their online public inspection file.

This move of the FCC highlights the importance of adhering to EEO regulations in the media industry, ensuring fairness and equality in hiring practices and workplace protocols.

SEUs not only need to ensure they are following EEO practices in their day-to-day operations, but they also need to carefully report and document these practices through the annual EEO PFR. By October 2, 2023, these reports will be subject to public scrutiny, highlighting both the transparency and the seriousness with which the FCC views these equal employment opportunity practices.

This October deadline provides SEUs ample time to compile, review, finalize, and upload the required reports. To adhere to the EEO regulations, SEUs are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the specific requirements, deadlines, and procedures for submitting the public inspection files.
