CMS Launches Nationwide GUIDE Model to Improve Dementia Care and Support for Caregivers

The US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently revealed a new voluntary and nationwide test model known as the Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Model. This progressive initiative is aimed at two rapidly growing demographic groups: individuals living with dementia, and their non-professional caregivers.

The central focus of the GUIDE Model is dementia-care management. The intention behind this development is to improve the quality of life for people suffering from dementia, a demographic significantly on the rise in recent years. The model proposes to provide care coordination and comprehensive management for individuals living with dementia. Caregivers, who are often unpaid and providing support in their own time, will also benefit from this model.

By continuing to increase investments and resources into dementia care, CMS aims to alleviate some of the hardship experienced by both those living with dementia and their caregivers. This is an important step towards improving current dementia care standards across the nation.
