Online English-language tutoring company, iTutorGroup, is set to pay $365,000, following a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The settlement was announced as per federal charges, on the grounds of alleged discriminatory hiring practices.
The EEOC’s lawsuit claimed that the iTutorGroup, which consists of three consolidated companies serving students in China, programmed its online platform in a manner that led to automatic rejection of over 200 older applications. The rejected applicants consist of a group that was apparently cast aside on the grounds of their age.
The allegations, if true, represent a clear violation of federal laws against age discrimination in employment. In addition to the agreed settlement amount, iTutorGroup have agreed to take other measures as part of the relief process, although specific details of these measures have not been disclosed.
With this settlement, iTutorGroup joins the growing list of companies adjusting their policies and rectifying their hiring processes in order to conform to equal employment opportunity requirements. Such steps are not only an ethical necessity, but also pave the way for diversified and inclusive business environments.

It underlines the importance of businesses ensuring their hiring practices are in compliance with EEOC laws and guidelines.
