Balancing Law School and College Football: August Pitre’s Dual Pursuit

The challenges faced by student-athletes juggling their sports obligations with academics are well known. The situation encountered by law student and college football player August Pitre provides a unique look into the rigors of balancing high-stakes academic and athletic pursuits.

August Pitre, a wide receiver for Southern University Jaguars, is not just an average student-athlete. Although he has football commitments during the day, he has scheduled all his law school classes at the Southern University Law Center at night. His experience typifies the demanding nature of law studies twinned with a sporting career.

Speaking to The Advocate, Pitre mentioned “time management has been the biggest challenge”. He elaborated on how he had to plan and execute both his football and academic commitments meticulously. Managing group projects proved to be particularly challenging for him as he had to find ways to meet, work and effectively communicate with his peers.

Pitre is in the early phases of struggling to find the perfect balance between his responsibilities as a student and an athlete. However, he revealed he’s “starting to get into the groove” and determining what he needs to do to create a schedule that works for him.

In the face of the multiple time pressures, Pitre’s experience underscores the complexity of the balance that student-athletes, especially those in tough academic programs such as law, must strive to achieve.
