European Legal Departments’ Digitalization Hindered by Absence of Strategy and Budget

While a majority of European legal departments recognize the utility of streamlining their work processes with legal technology, numerous still travel down their digitalization path haphazardly, void of a distinct strategy, plan, or even a dedicated budget. This is the impression painted by Wolters Kluwer and the European Legal Tech Association (ELTA) in The Legisway Benchmark for Legal Departments report, which examined over 520 in-house legal professionals across 30 different industries in Europe.

The full Law.com report points out that many corporate legal groups across the continent remain in the early stages of their digital transformation strategy. This signals the need for more coordinated efforts towards clear digitalization plans for enhanced performance and competitiveness in the legal field.
