Connecticut’s New Pharma Rules: Navigating Licensing and Reporting Requirements

As of October 1, 2023, pharmaceutical manufacturers employing sales representatives who interact with healthcare professionals (HCPs) in Connecticut need to heed a new set of rules following the recent enactment of HB6669.

Under the new legislation, manufacturers operating in Connecticut are now required to obtain an annual manufacturer license. The specifics of the law lay emphasis on the registration for pharmaceutical marketing with the first registration due on October 1, 2023.

Starting on July 1, 2024, manufacturers also will need to submit a report each year. However, the detailed requirements and nature of the report have not been fully specified in the legislative provisions.

The new law signals an increased effort by the state of Connecticut to regulate the interactions between pharmaceutical companies and HCPs.

While the full impact and potential challenges for large corporations are still under analysis, all companies employing sales representatives in Connecticut should familiarize themselves with the upcoming documentation necessities and potential penalties for non-compliance.
