Menendez has been accused of leveraging his SFRC position to aid the Egyptian government, which was dealing with Senate-enforced restraints on military aid in 2018 due to its poor human rights record. In 2019, Hana roped Menendez in to meddle with New Jersey officials investigating Uribe for insurance fraud, and following that, to intervene in a broad federal investigation involving real estate developer Fred Daibes.
