Workplace drug use may not be as glamourised and exaggerated as presented on the Max TV series “Industry”, yet it’s a significant problem in reality as reported here. In contradiction to on screen dramatization, real life scenarios of substance abuse and addiction in the workplace often involve significant legal and personal challenges.
According to a research by the Society for Human Resource Management, nearly 9% of adults in the workplace, which accounts for approximately 13.6 million workers, grapple with alcohol or illicit drug use. Interestingly, an identical percentage have disclosed that they are either in the process of recovery, or have successfully recovered from a substance usage problem.
Larger corporations and law firms have their work cut out to manage and address these issues, considering their potential to disrupt workflow and affect personnel safety and company reputation. The emphasis on maintaining a healthy work environment is not only beneficial for the workforce, but also crucial in assuring the smooth running of corporates.
