As the application of generative AI continues to rise in the legal profession, the question of how lawyers can harness this technology responsibly and effectively is coming into sharp focus. This past summer, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, one of the world’s largest law firms, took a significant stride in addressing this challenge. Orrick, in collaboration with legal training firm AltaClaro, crafted a training program for its summer associates on prompt engineering and the responsible use of generative AI.
In a recent episode of LawNext, host Bob Ambrogi welcomed Abdi Shayesteh, the founder and CEO of AltaClaro, to discuss the development and constituents of the AI training program. Shayesteh, who returned to the show for the first time since January 2021, also reported on the growth of AltaClaro, which has since secured $2.5 million in seed financing and substantially elevated the number of its course offerings.
Shayesteh, a lawyer-turned-serial entrepreneur, embarked on the creation of AltaClaro upon witnessing the inadequate preparation of new associates entering the practice of law. His solution was a unique, experience-led approach to legal training. Today, AltaClaro supports both law firms aiming to upscale their associates and individual lawyers striving to amplify their skills in specific areas such as contract drafting, M&A transactions, and closing commercial loan deals.
