FCA Seeks to Boost Diversity and Inclusion Standards in Financial Sector

On September 25, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) published its consultation paper CP23/20 titled “Diversity and inclusion in the financial sector – working together to drive change”. The objective of the paper is to emphasize the necessity of diversity and inclusion within prominent firms in the financial sector. This initiative was taken in conjunction with another consultation paper published by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), CP18/23, focusing on diversity and inclusion standards in PRA-regulated firms.

The FCA’s consultation paper puts forth a set of standards to reinforce diversity and inclusion (D&I) within larger-scale firms. The proposed guidelines are aimed at preventing any form of nonfinancial misconduct prevalent within these organizations. The FCA believes that having robust D&I standards will contribute significantly to the general work culture, thereby enhancing performance and productivity.

From a broader perspective, the consultation paper is a part of a larger effort to instill good governance within the financial industry. The FCA, in collaboration with PRA, is focusing on improving market integrity and ensuring operational resilience among firms. The proposed D&I recommendations represent an essential component of the overall risk management strategies to tackle any instances of non-financial misconduct.

Soliciting views from various stakeholders in the sector, the FCA encourages the creation of a more inclusive, equitable, and representative workplace. By fostering an environment where each employee feels valued, the FCA aims to promote greater productivity and a more effective working atmosphere overall.

The responses and viewpoints received from this public consultation will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the ultimate form and content of the anticipated rules and standards.
