Relativity, the e-discovery company, recently unveiled its forthcoming product, Relativity aiR for Review, at the annual Relativity Fest user conference held in Chicago. The product, being the forerunner of a planned series, is designed to harness the power of generative artificial intelligence, thereby assisting legal professionals in their responsibilities. The product is architected on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Services.
According to the announcement made by Phil Saunders, the CEO, and Chris Brown, chief product officer, the aiR for Review tool will streamline the user’s ability to find data that is responsive to discovery requests, material related to various legal issues, and crucial documents. The principle of “AI you can trust” was underlined multiple times in their keynote address.
The product also offers a unique feature to maintain transparency and trust – providing users with citations and explanations to support its recommendations and predictions, validating the accuracy of its results. The company anticipates initiating limited availability of the product by the end of the year, with general availability expected in the first-half of 2024.
Chris Brown, in a pre-keynote interview, alluded to the fact that at this development stage, aiR plays a supplemental role to other types of AI-assisted reviews like active learning or technology-assisted review. The key advantage of aiR over other review forms is that it does not mandate training. Instead, review teams can define the context for the AI through the review protocol they are currently creating.
Beyond aiR for Review, Relativity also announced two other AI-based products which are now available on RelativityOne, the company’s cloud-based e-discovery platform. The products were originally developed by Text IQ, a company acquired by Relativity in 2021. Renamed as Relativity Personal Information Detect (PI Detect) and Relativity Data Breach Response, these tools aim at enhancing the detection accuracy of personal information and aiding organizations in responding to data breaches respectively.
Relativity is committed to its ongoing investment in exploring more AI-based solutions that can make a significant impact on partners’ operations and their delivery of services to clients. This includes piloted products using generative AI to help identify compliance behaviors and support case strategy, streamlining operational effort and time taken to analyze and organize case information.
“Relativity has integrated AI into its products for over 15 years, and I’m proud that in a year where many felt immense pressure to rush and deploy the newest AI development for the sake of being the first to do it, Relativity stayed true to its steadfast approach to thoughtfully innovate with purpose,” CEO Saunders said.
