The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced the extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for both Afghanistan and Venezuela. The new directive will see TPS for Afghanistan being extended and redesignated for a duration of 18 months, stretching from November 21, 2023, up to May 20, 2025.
As it stands now, approximately 3,100 individuals from Afghanistan benefit from this program. However, for these individuals to retain their status during the extended period, they are required to re-register and apply for a renewal of their employment authorization document (EAD) during the 60-day timeframe that runs from September 25, 2023 up until November 24, 2023.
In addition to Afghanistan, TPS will be extended for Venezuelans currently residing in the United States. Precise details regarding the duration of this extension and any necessary steps for re-registration and renewal of EADs for Venezuelans, though, have not been disclosed at this time.
