EEOC Seeks Public Input on Proposed Workplace Harassment Enforcement Guidance

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently invited the public to provide feedback on its proposed “Enforcement Guidance on Harassment in the Workplace”. This development followed a majority vote within the EEOC.

In an effort to display transparency and get public involvement, the EEOC’s notice of this proposed guidance and a concurrent request for commentary has been published and posted for public inspection in the Federal Register as of October 2.

As part of this clear and collaborative process, the EEOC aims to better protect workers from harassment issues in the workplace by updating and strengthening its guidance. The organization is particularly focused on those challenges that pose problems in today’s diverse employment landscape.

Through the public commentary process, the EEOC will be able to leverage a broad spectrum of perspectives. This is intended to refine the enforcement guidance to address the dynamic and evolving issue of workplace harassment effectively.

Legal professionals, particularly those in large corporations and law firms, will need to pay attention to these developments. The revision of guidance stands to have a significant impact on workplace policies regarding harassment, potentially necessitating changes in existing practices and structures.
