As noted by Tom Goldstein in his recent article on SCOTUSblog, readers familiar with the Supreme Court blog may notice some alterations to their coverage as we enter the 2023-24 term of the court. Despite these changes, they have committed to maintaining the same level of comprehensive reporting on many of the significant cases that come before the Supreme Court justices, both on the merits and emergency dockets of the court, as well as key petitions of interest.
Importantly, while there will be no change to their live coverage of opinion announcements, there will be a reduction in their coverage of every merits case. SCOTUSblog will choose to focus increasingly on reporting broader themes and trends prevalent in various areas of the court’s workload. This shift indicates that future content from the blog will likely deal with overarching narratives and patterns discernible across a range of cases, as opposed to dissecting each case on its individual merit.
Goldstein also highlighted that the site will also be focusing on session previews. These previews discuss every case that will be heard at oral arguments in each session, beginning with a preview of the October argument session.
In terms of statistical coverage, their annual Stat Pack will no longer be published, however, the existing editions will remain available in the Stat Pack archive. Statistics regarding the term, significant opinions, and the pace of grants and decisions can still be found on their statistics page. It is also worth noting that their podcast, SCOTUStalk, will remain on hiatus this term.
Furthering their commitment to keeping their readership informed and engaged, they have encouraged the public to sign up for their email digest and to follow them on TikTok and Threads. Continued engagement with their audience in this way ensures that readers are consistently provided with the most up-to-date and relevant news.
