Senior technology lawyers are cautioning law firms, particularly those in Asia, against a wait-and-see approach towards adopting generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology. They note that law firms risk losing any competitive edge and being left behind in the rapidly progressing world of AI language models.
While numerous international law firms are progressing with GenAI implementations, Asian law firms seem to be more cautious. A few firms in Japan and Korea have even expressed that they don’t currently use GenAI tools for legal work, and many are still deciding the optimal way to incorporate and leverage these tools.
Considering the rapid development of AI language models, the experts emphasise that a carefully considered but active approach to AI adoption is imperative for these law firms if they wish to stay competitive.
