Clio Unveils Major Product Updates: Personal Injury Add-On, E-Filing Integration, and AI Advancements

At the recent Clio Cloud Conference, law practice management firm, Clio, unveiled an array of new products and updates, marking what the company calls the most expansive update in its 15-year history.

  • An add-on for personal injury lawyers, offering a suite of features tailored to their unique workflows and requirements.
  • Clio Duo, a proprietary generative artificial intelligence set to be incorporated into all Clio products starting from 2024.
  • An electronic court filing and service feature, Clio File, built directly into Clio Manage, making Clio the first law practice management platform to directly integrate e-filing.

In addition to these product launches, Clio has released a range of features focussed on legal aid organizations. Under the banner of ‘Clio for Legal Aid’, these tools aim to assist organizations in managing grants and funding sources, reporting on grant deliverables, calculating intake eligibility, and executing grant-funded or sliding-scale billing.

“This year, we have focused on centralization and connectivity throughout our platform, helping legal professionals to bring more of what they do into Clio,” labeled Jack Newton, Clio’s founder and CEO. The comment highlights Clio’s strategic aim of fostering connections between clients, colleagues, and courts, thus enabling stronger relationships and increased profitability.

Anchoring in on the new add-on for personal injury lawyers, this should significantly simplify the management of medical records, bills, expenses, damage organization, and client settlements. This could prove to be a pivotal tool for the nearly 50,000 personal injury lawyers practicing across the United States.

Another critical revelation from the conference was the announcement of Clio File, an e-filing and e-service tool built directly into the firm’s hub, Clio Manage. This will allow legal professionals to file, serve, and deliver court documents directly from the platform. Paired with other features, like rules-based calendaring acquired from CalendarRules and automated document organization acquired from Lawyaw, the tool is set to enable direct filing for some court systems offering e-filing services, hopefully starting with Texas by 2024.

Clio is also enhancing its AI capabilities with the introduction of Clio Duo. This proprietary generative AI technology will be built into all Clio offerings starting with Clio Manage in 2024. Clio Duo aims to help legal professionals make the most out of their data, enabling more effective business outcomes and better customer service without compromising security, compliance, or privacy.
