FCC Invests $1 Billion in Wireless AgTech Networks for Precision Agriculture Connectivity

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently announced the next public meeting of its Precision Agriculture Connectivity Task Force, which is scheduled to convene on November 6, 2023. This comes as part of an ongoing initiative supporting a commitment of $1 billion earmarked for the deployment of wireless AgTech networks.

More people are becoming aware of the importance of advanced technology in agriculture, and the FCC is among the leading organisations paving the way for these innovative changes. Recognising the critical role that high-quality connectivity plays in modern agriculture, this task force has been specifically instituted to address this aspect.

The Precision Agriculture Connectivity Task Force strives to meet the growing demand for bandwidth in the field, to accommodate uses such as remote monitoring of crops, livestock, and equipment; efficient use of water, fertiliser, and other resources; and timely response to changes in weather, among many other applications of technology in agriculture.

With technology’s growing role in agriculture, the FCC’s initiative could not be more timely or relevant. The future productivity and sustainability of the industry may well hinge on this commitment to fostering greater connectivity in the field of precision agriculture.
