U.S. law firm Akerman has inaugurated a dedicated Japan sector team aiming to serve Japanese businesses with international operations. This step was facilitated, in part, through the recruitment of corporate M&A lawyer Hiroshi Sarumida, previously the U.S. chair of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s Japan transactional practice. Sarumida will now serve as a partner at Akerman.
In his new role, Sarumida will co-lead the Japan sector transactional team along with corporate partner and co-leader Michael Doherty. Meanwhile, litigation partner Richard Brosnick will lead the Japan litigation team. The Japan sector team, encompassing 10 lawyers, will address transactional, litigation, regulatory, commercial, and operational matters. Notably, Akerman currently operates without any Asia-based offices.
