Conservative Groups Challenge Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan in New Legal Battle

Student loan debt relief has, in recent years, become a significant topic in the political and social discourse. With a large number of US citizens continuing to struggle under the weight of massive debt, the upcoming restart of student loan repayments has wrought further concern. The burden of the loans has even driven people to the extreme, either inflicting harm on themselves or their family members.

While President Biden has made attempts to reduce or forgive student loans, these efforts have been met with resistance from various quarters. For instance, Rep. Jim Banks has argued that student loan forgiveness could undermine military recruitment efforts.

Two conservative organizations – the Cato Institute and Mackinac Center for Public Policy –> have made a recent appeal against a Michigan judge’s decision in favor of President Biden’s student loan relief plan for more than 800,000 protracted borrowers, with the help of the New Civil Liberties Alliance.

This new legal challenge is another hurdle in the path of Biden administration’s promise to make student loan relief a political priority. Borrowers involved have had their student loans active for over 20 years and are seeking forgiveness for overpayments due to inaccuracies in the recording of their payments.

Moreover, student debt has shown to have serious implications on significant life decisions such as starting a family, buying a home, and retirement planning. To sidestep their education debts, some people have taken drastic measures such as leaving the country.
