Mishcon de Reya Backs Board of Deputies of British Jews in Challenging BBC’s Hamas Terminology

According to the letter sent to BBC’s Director-General, Tim Davie, and then shared on a social media platform, the Board of Deputies, through Mishcon partner Adam Rose, expressed their dissatisfaction with the BBC’s choice of terminology in describing Hamas. The Board debates the use of the term ‘militants’ instead of ‘terrorists’ to define the group, arguing that this choice undermines the nature of their actions and is not ‘fair and accurate’. The report further discusses the role of lawyers who have been vocal in their criticism on issues relating to the conflict, including a group of King’s Counsel who wrote to the UK broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, earlier this week to express their dissent regarding BBC’s coverage.
