The City Council Member Julie Won, together with officials from the Adams administration, announced the beginning of two strategic planning studies intended for developing various segments of Western Queens. This was proclaimed last Wednesday, Oct. 11, as per a news release.
The premier neighborhood study, aptly named “One Long Island City”, aims to explore strategies to foster new housing structures, stimulate economic expansion, enhance transit linkage, secure open spaces, and boost overall infrastructure reform. Another critical component the study seeks to address is the minimization of exposure to climate risk.
In a broader context, this initiative is likely going to bring more balanced city planning, a more dynamic local economy, and an enhanced standard of living for residents and businesses in the area. More importantly, it is also a direct response to the increasing call for cities worldwide to be proactive in adapting and becoming resilient to climate change impacts.
