APAC Life Sciences Sector Faces Complex Challenges in Pricing, Regulation, and Supply Chain

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) life sciences sector is grappling with emerging challenges and complexities as it continually evolves. Key industry leaders recently gathered to discuss these pressing issues at the Life Sciences and Health Care Horizons event in Tokyo.

The event, which was spearheaded by Hogan Lovells Tokyo office managing partner and APAC lead for the Life Sciences and Health Care sector – Dr. Frederick Ch’en, saw industry leaders shed light on a variety of issues. Also in attendance were partners Melissa Bianchi, Penny Powell, Cullen Taylor, and Hein van den Bos, who shared their insights on various subjects impacting the sector.

One of the main focuses of the discussion revolved around the commercialization impacts of pricing and reimbursement. As products evolve and become more innovative, the ways in which they’re priced and reimbursed become increasingly complex. In a sector where profitability often hinges on these factors, this is a critical issue for life sciences corporations in the APAC region.

Furthermore, significant regulatory changes in the U.S. were brought up. As one of the main global players, the U.S dwells significant influence on the international arena, often setting the norms for other countries. Thus, any changes in the U.S. regulatory landscape can potentially send ripples across the APAC region.

Supply chain planning and commercial launch preparation were also discussed during the event. Given the globalized nature of the industry, these aspects can be particularly challenging for APAC corporations, many of which have extensive international operations.

These discussions provide valuable insights into the issues currently faced by life sciences GCs in the APAC region, assisting in navigating the landscape’s risks and planning for the future with informed decisions.
