Revamping a Family Law Firm: Navigating Generational Challenges and Establishing a Cannabis Niche

It’s the era of modernization and even law firms are not untouched. A fresh perspective comes from a family-run law firm that has been successful in updating its operations and even creating a new niche.

In an recent episode of the Non-Eventcast podcast, we had a chance to hear from Megan Sheehan. Running a family law practice alongside her mom, Sheehan threw light on the obstacles and breakthroughs they encountered over the course of revamping their traditional practice; even establishing a new niche in the cannabis industry – all in a span of less than five years.

Key to their success was the delicate maneuvering around generational issues which, Sheehan acknowledges, were a considerable challenge. One of the vital transformations was the update to their time and billing software. She added that the key to successful change was to take it step by step, gradually incorporating technology to manage payments and documents, implementing remote work protocols, and even launching a new practice area within the existing firm.

Maintaining harmony while ensuring progress in a multigenerational workplace can indeed be challenging, but Sheehan’s journey demonstrates it is possible and often, worth exploring. Her experience can serve as an inspiration to other firms facing similar challenges.
