Legal tech startups, please be advised: Changes to the Startup Alley criteria at the American Bar Association’s TECHSHOW now permit more companies to apply. The alteration involves the elimination of the previous requirement stipulating that a company should never have exhibited at a national legal technology conference. Regardless of past exhibitions, provided other criteria are met, companies may now apply.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Startup Alley at the upcoming ABA TECHSHOW, scheduled for February 14-17, 2024. From the pool of applications, 15 will be chosen to attend the TECHSHOW, where they will participate in an opening-night pitch competition and be given the opportunity to show their innovations in a dedicated Startup Alley section of the exhibit hall.
In past years, one of the criteria for applying was that a company should not have displayed their product or service at a national legal technology conference. However, feedback from a number of startups questioning this clause has led to a reconsideration of this stipulation in consultation with the TECHSHOW board.
As a result of this thoughtful feedback and subsequent board consultation, the decision has been made to permit companies that have previously exhibited at other venues to apply, as long as they fit the ‘startup’ category.
If this previous stipulation has deterred you from applying in the past, the alteration provides a new chance for your startup to participate. The application deadline for Startup Alley is November 10, 2023.
