In a recent development in Ohio’s legal sphere, Elliot Gaiser, a Jones Day associate, who gained considerable experience while clerking for US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, has been appointed as Ohio’s new solicitor general. Bloomberg Law reported the appointment.
Gaiser will officially assume his role on Nov. 20, following an announcement made by Attorney General Dave Yost’s office, setting him to be the 11th person to hold this crucial position within Ohio’s legal system. His current place of work resides within Jones Day’s Issues & Appeals practice, located in the firm’s Columbus office.
The new role will observe Gaiser filling in the shoes of his predecessor, Benjamin Flowers. Flowers, who had lent his expertise to the office for over four years, recently opted to join the Cincinnati-based boutique firm Ashbrook Byrne Kresge LLC. Bloomberg Law provided details of his departure.
Before setting his professional journey within the legal field, Gaiser has previously clerked for noted legal entities like Neomi Rao and Edith Jones. Attorney General Dave Yost, a noted Republican, expressed his support for Gaiser by highlighting his conservative legal bona fides. These combined credentials make Gaiser’s appointment as Ohio’s solicitor general a significant shift within the state’s legal landscape.
