Sidney Powell Pleads Guilty to Election Interference Charges, Legal Standing Unaffected

Sidney Powell, erstwhile federal prosecutor, made headlines in Fulton County Superior Court today as she pled guilty to six misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties. It is as of yet unclear whether this plea will have any impact on her ability to continue practicing law.

In 2020, at the RNC event, Powell, stood beside Rudy Giuliani, making ambitious promises of divulging intel showing the significant influence of communist money gaining ground in disruptive affairs in the United States elections. This bold assertion is available in transcript form for your reference, here.

The plea deal avoided a potential trial due to start on Friday, and given the nature of the charges, it seems that her standing as a legal professional will largely remain unaffected.

Powell’s activities post the 2020 election, attempted to challenge the legitimacy of the election results, ended with a string of lawsuits against multiple swing states, for which she faced sanctions by a federal judge in Michigan. Striding forward with her allegations, Powell, along with Mike Flynn and Patrick Byrne, former CEO of Overstock, made their presence felt in the Oval Office on December 18, 2020. However, the promises of seizure of all the voting machines to trigger a recount, unfortunately, did not gradute into action.

Powell’s audacity to challenge the election results, led to the violation of Georgia’s RICO act and as a result she faced indictment for conspiracy to defraud the state and commit election fraud, computer theft, computer trespass, and computer invasion of privacy. The detailed Accusation is available for reference.

In addition to her legal wranglings with the court system, Powell has now pledged to testify at all trials and hearings for co-defendants. Her plea is expected to bring tension for co-defendants Misty Hampton and Cathy Latham. Powell’s capacity as a potential informant could increase their vulnerability to legal reprisal.

Will Powell, free from the immediate threat of servitude, navigate herself out of a federal indictment after being labeled as “Co-Conspirator 3 – an attorney whose unfounded claims of election fraud”? Only time will tell.
