FCC Adopts Key Measures to Propel Growth in Space Economy

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently undertaken steps aimed at facilitating commercial operations in the booming space industry. This move has seen the adoption of two orders that offer increased flexibility to industry players, according to a report by Cooley LLP on JD Supra.

The FCC adopted both a second report and a further notice of proposed rulemaking (FNRMP). This step was taken to allocate spectrum for space launch operations and to consider spectrum needs for other space-based requirements. Such allocations highlight the increasing importance and fast-paced growth of the space industry, necessitating fixed regulatory measures to keep up.

Apart from this, the agency has approved a report and order along with an FNPRM to modernize its licensing processes for satellites and earth-based operations. This move aligns FCC’s procedures with current needs and ensures a streamlined and efficient process for all stakeholders.

These measures by the FCC mark a significant step towards aligning their regulatory framework with the burgeoning demands and possibilities of the space economy. As the space industry continues to expand, it remains crucial for regulatory bodies to offer the necessary infrastructure and support for its sustainable and controlled growth.
