Bricker Graydon’s Higher Education Team has announced a partnership with Allegheny College to host a two-day Title IX Training event from November 3rd. The training program, which is accessible both in-person and online, is designed to answer the increasing demand for expertise in Title IX proceedings.
Title IX, a federal law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. The law has broad implications for universities and colleges, particularly in handling allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment, among others.
The primary focus of the 2-day training program will be to provide education for Title IX Hearing Officers and Appeals Officers. The training will cover related topics such as complaint handling and evaluation processes, appeals procedures, and evidence assessment, all crucial elements in the management of Title IX cases.
The integration of virtual options for the training is a timely decision, given the ongoing global concerns revolving around in-person gatherings as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, it underlines the constant responsiveness and adaptability of learning institutions, even in the face of unprecedented global challenges.
Given the clear spikes in discussions surrounding sexual misconduct in educational institutions, professional training on such sensitive subjects has never been more crucial. Legal professionals, particularly those working within educational institutions, may find this training invaluable in staying abreast of the latest legal strategies and assessment techniques pertaining to Title IX.
