John Eastman, a lawyer who represented former President Donald Trump, is currently defending his California law license against charges that he violated the US Constitution and the mandates of attorney conduct. Eastman has allegedly conspired with Trump to disrupt the electoral count on January 6, consequently facing accusations of pressuring Vice President Mike Pence to transgress the law.
Eastman defends himself by arguing that his representation of the former President and outrage from activist lawyers are the primary reasons for what he terms as an unprecedented trial. After 33 days of trial, which included four extensions of time, Eastman was the final witness in the California State Bar Court trial.
It is interesting to note here how partisan politics and activism are seemingly having more and more influence on the operation of legal systems in contemporary society.
