After a 150-year legacy, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, a firm renowned among its contemporaries, is preparing to shutter its operations. The firm recently suffered a significant blow after losing more than half of its partners to Hogan Lovells, leading to the public declaration of its planned dissolution.
While promises have been made that many of the partners and associates will find new opportunities at Hogan Lovells or other firms, questions surround the fate of the remaining employees. As reported by Bloomberg Law, the day following the firm’s dissolution announcement, it filed a WARN Act notice in New York, revealing plans to lay off nearly 140 employees.
Furthermore, according to the WARN Act notice from Stroock, the firm’s official closure date for its New York office has been set for January 30, 2024. The firm’s partners have authorized the executive committee to dissolve the firm when appropriate, a time we can now anticipate to be around this specified date.
