Legally Themed Halloween Costume Contest: Meet the Finalists and Cast Your Vote

Before Halloween, we sought submissions from readers of their legally themed costumes for our annual competition, leading to a variety of interesting and amusing entries. Creativity extended beyond just the individuals, incorporating pop culture trials and even pets into the mix, making for an exciting contest this year. Now, it’s time to meet the five fantastic finalists in the running for the winner of our competition’s fourteenth edition.

First, we have this impressive submission that might just tickle your memory from property class. Pictured here competitively, these contestants are adapting the lesser-known legal principle known as the doctrine of ‘ancient lights’.

Following that, we have a contestant that adds a unique spin to the term ‘legal eagle’, or rather dog. This adorable pup goes by the name Ginsburg, rightfully dressing up as Ruth Barker Ginsburg for Halloween.

Breaking the mold, we have a team entry with the University of South Dakota School of Law’s legal writing team dressing up as Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s soup cans. They even have some creative law-themed soup labels.

Another finalist represents the queen of wellness, Gwyneth Paltrow. This contestant reminds us of her high-profile ski accident trial, in which she lamented about losing a half day of skiing.

To wrap up the finalists, we have an excellent portrayal of the former acting Solicitor General and current Hogan Lovells partner Neal Katyal, styling his fashionable Burning Man ensemble. Wearing a propeller hat makes this already fun outfit into something extraordinary.
