Israel Agrees to Daily Humanitarian Pauses amid Gaza Conflict

According to a US national security spokesperson, Israel has agreed to instigate daily humanitarian pauses in its ongoing conflict with Hamas in northern Gaza. This revelation was announced during a recent press briefing by John Kirby, the President’s National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications.

Kirby elaborated that the Israelis had disclosed potentially significant measures, indicating that two humanitarian corridors intended for civilians escaping from areas of conflict would now be in operation and that implementation of four-hour pauses in areas of northern Gaza would commence daily with a notification given three hours in advance. He maintained the United States’ stance on the matter, stating that this was not their military operation.

In a parallel development, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk, on Friday, repeated calls for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. He confirmed that more than 100 staff members of the UN’s Palestinian relief agency had lost their lives since the onset of the Israeli bombardment.

Further reports from the UN’s Palestinian relief agency highlight an increase in the number of people displaced due to the conflict. Since October 7th, the Israeli bombardment has rendered 13 of the 22 UN refugee health centers nonoperational. Additionally, two UN schools were affected due to the bombardment of a mosque, and reports indicate that over 550 people have lost their lives while seeking shelter in UN facilities.
