A Texas woman by the name of Tiffani Shea Gish has recently pleaded guilty to threats leveled against US District Court for the Southern District of Florida judge Aileen Cannon. The latter is currently responsible for presiding over the legal disputes concerning documents acquired from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence located in Florida.
Gish was charged with interstate communications involving threats to kidnap or cause bodily harm. This was one among two charges listed in the criminal complaint issued in September 2022. This document outlined three instances where Gish purportedly left voicemails, identifying herself as a federal agent and delivering threats to kill Judge Cannon in addition to bombing her house.
FBI agents were able to trace back to Gish through a search of phone records, leading them to her residence. Here, Gish expressed guilt of having been the person leaving the aforementioned voicemails using a phone that was exclusively accessed by her.
The court has ordered for Gish to remain in custody until she is scheduled to face her sentencing in February 2024. She is staring at a potential maximum sentence of five year’s incarceration and a fine. Gish had priorly been retained in custody, awaiting a motion for her competency evaluation.
In response to this development, the Prosecutor in the case, U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani, voiced that Gish’s guilty plea underscores the commitment to uphold the rule of law and safeguard judges who are founts of interpretation and application of the law.
This is the second incident involving a resident of Texas being charged with the threat against a judge involved in a Trump-related lawsuit. Previously in August, another Texas woman was charged for issuing threats to take the life of a federal Judge presiding over a case related to alleged election interference in 2020 by then President Donald Trump in Washington D.C.
