In an escalating issue of racial controversy and alleged discrimination in corporate law, Palm Management’s former General Counsel has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was marginalized and breached her contract because of her race.
Joy Vida Jones, the former General Counsel, has made claims that upon revealing a lung cancer diagnosis in January 2018, the restaurant brand’s executives began to diminish her responsibilities. In her complaint, she states that such an approach was not taken with other non-Black employees who had shared similar health issues, indicating racial bias in the company’s actions.
Her litigation has been lodged with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The specific details of the case can be accessed via the court’s docket No. 1:23-cv-09920.
Jones’s allegations against Palm Management illustrate a wider concern over racism in the legal profession and might set a precedent for other companies taking discriminatory actions against their staff.
Landry’s Inc, Palm Management’s parent company, has yet to make a public statement regarding the issue at hand.
