Chicago Expands Paid Leave Rights with Comprehensive New Ordinance

On November 9, 2023, the City of Chicago approved the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance. The ordinance has significantly broadened the requirements for paid leave by employers in the city.

The law now stipulates that all employees in the city will receive up to five annual days of paid leave that can be used for any reason. In addition, they will also receive a further five annual days of paid sick leave, which can be used for specified reasons according to the ordinance.
