Former U.S. Ambassador to China and ex-Obama Secretary Gary Locke has joined Dorsey & Whitney as a senior adviser to their international clientele, the firm announced. With a career spanning 3 decades in diplomacy and state affairs, Locke is set to leverage his expertise in the international legislative landscape to aid the firm’s corporate customers.
Renowned for his tenure as the Washington governor from 1997 to 2005, Locke additionally served as the President Obama’s Secretary of Commerce and Ambassador to China. In his new non-legal part-time role, Locke will deploy his experience and knowledge to navigate complex international regulations for the firm’s clients, from manufacturers to healthcare providers, across the Pacific.
In an interview, Locke noted, “Chinese companies need to understand our tax laws, the differences between states, etc.” He continued by saying that his new role is an extension of the work he took up as U.S. commerce secretary, governor, and ambassador to China.
