Herbert Smith Freehills and White & Case have taken the lead roles in the $1.87 billion acquisition of Canadian company Cuprous Capital by MMG Limited. Cuprous Capital owns the Khoemacau copper mine in Botswana, a significant asset in the deal. Hong Kong-listed MMG Limited, a Melbourne-based resources firm, is owned by China Minmetals Corp, a Chinese state-owned enterprise.
Herbert Smith Freehills, working out of Brisbane, advised MMG on this acquisition. Unfortunately, the firm hasn’t commented on the matter. Similarly, White & Case, who advised Cuprous Capital, have remained tight-lipped on the specifics of the transaction.
