Three of McDermott Will & Emery’s longtime intellectual property (IP) partners, namely Tomoki Tanida, Takashi Saito, and Michael Fogarty, have transitioned to a new firm: Rimon P.C. This shift was primarily motivated by Rimon’s greater flexibility regarding service rates – a core challenge at their former firm. Tanida, for instance, noted that McDermott’s ‘rates were too high to do patent prosecution’, according to The American Lawyer.
The team, having officially commenced work at Rimon’s Northern Virginia office on October 23, brought with them a versatile group of five patent agents and staff, along with a fully Japanese clientele. Their move doesn’t only augment Rimon’s growth in the IP sphere but also facilitates the launch of a brand-new Japan practice at the firm.
