Katten Muchin Rosenman, prominent law firm, has named Gil Soffer, a partner based in Chicago, as its forthcoming chair, according to an official statement from the firm on Wednesday. Bloomberg Law reports that Soffer engages in white-collar defense and will be taking up his new position in July.
Soffer will succeed Roger Furey, a Washington-based intellectual property partner who has occupied the role since 2016. Notably, Furey himself took over the mantle from Vince Sergi who was at the helm of affairs for 21 years after joining the firm in 1974, its inaugural year.
An alumnus of Harvard Law School, Soffer joined Katten in 2000 after six years of service as a federal prosecutor. His professional journey within Katten has engaged him in managerial and co-chairing roles, including serving as the managing partner for the firm’s Chicago office for 10 years and co-leading its litigation department.
In regards to his election, Soffer stated that he plans to build upon the firm’s progress and continue delivering high levels of client service, regardless of any forthcoming obstacles.
Firmly rooted in Chicago since 1974, Katten has grown steadily over the decades and now houses nearly 700 lawyers. Financially, the firm exhibited strong performance last year with revenues of roughly $743 million, as disclosed by The American Lawyer. The company’s profits per equity partner were just over $2 million.
Furthermore, Katten instated a CEO position in 2013, presently held by New York-based lawyer Noah Heller.
